30 Years Strong: AeroMech Reflects on the Journey from Startup to Aviation Industry Partner

AeroMech Inc., Mukilteo, Washington — AeroMech Incorporated, a leading engineering and certification partner specializing in inflight connectivity and aircraft modernization, AeroMech Incorporated is proud to mark its 30th anniversary—a milestone that celebrates three decades of engineering excellence, technical achievement, and lasting partnerships across the aviation industry.

Founded in 1995 with a simple but powerful goal—to meet the evolving needs of the aviation industry through adaptive, high-quality engineering solutions—AeroMech has grown from a small, passionate team into a leading FAA-authorized engineering and certification organization trusted by OEMs, operators, and modification centers worldwide.

“I started AeroMech because I wanted to dedicate my energy to building something meaningful—something where I could guide the work, coach others, and deliver real value to the industry,” said Tony Wiederkehr “In those early days, it was just a handful of us learning as we went, driven by our love of aviation and a determination to listen to what the industry needed and respond with solutions that worked.”

Defining Moments

From its earliest years, AeroMech set itself apart with its agility and technical rigor. The company’s first significant milestone came when Tony Wiederkehr earned his Designated Engineering Representative (DER) authorization from the FAA—a moment that validated the company’s expertise and opened doors to significant certification programs. In 1997, AeroMech began a long-standing partnership with Embraer, becoming a key supplier across multiple platforms. This collaboration helped cement AeroMech’s reputation as a trusted engineering partner to OEMs worldwide.

Receiving the Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) from the FAA in 2008 further expanded AeroMech’s capabilities, allowing the company to manage certification projects from concept through to completion. That same spirit of evolution led to the establishment of AMI Aviation Services, AeroMech’s wholly owned subsidiary, which provides installation and integration services—a significant step toward full vertical integration.

Culture, Collaboration, and Commitment

AeroMech credits its success not only to technical excellence but also to the strength of its people and partnerships. “We’ve always believed in working closely with our customers and the FAA, establishing personal relationships built on respect, collaboration, and quality,” said Dave Doucette, President of AMI Aviation Services.  “Our employees share a deep passion for aviation, and that passion has carried us through every challenge. We’ve had to ‘hit reset’ a few times over the years, but our shared values, patience, and perseverance always bring us back stronger.” Today, AeroMech’s team continues to embody that commitment—combining deep technical expertise with a family-oriented culture that values teamwork, innovation, and doing what’s right, regardless of the effort required.

Looking Ahead

As AeroMech looks to the future, the company is poised to extend its legacy of innovation into new frontiers of aviation. “We want to maintain who we are—a technically strong, close-knit team with a commitment to quality,” added Wiederkehr “At the same time, we’re preparing for the next chapter, supporting emerging technologies like eVTOL and exploring where our expertise can make the greatest impact. When people hear ‘AeroMech,’ I want them to smile—and that’s our measure of success.”

Three decades in, AeroMech continues to thrive on the same values that launched it: technical excellence, integrity, and a passion for solving complex challenges in aviation.
